Continuing with the concert story

I only briefly discussed the actual concert.  I will tell you that it was a less than enjoyable opening act.

While I have not been to a concert in many years, I remember that if you were at a Doobie Brothers concert (70’s classic rock), the opening act was not going to be a Gospel Choir.  When I went to the Statler Brothers concert (country quartet), believe it or not the opener was not an AC/DC cover band.  Miley Cyrus, attracting teens, tweens, and pre-teens had her brother open for her.

Metro Station is a little hard to characterize, other than to say that one set of ear plugs was not enough.  It was punk acid with a twist of fingernails on the chalkboard.  I am way too old for that.  It had to be hot because from a quarter of a mile away in our seats we could see to band members sweating.  Finally Trace Cyrus took his jacket off, then in about 5 minutes his shirt came off.  Not a problem.  His tattoo was covering most of his torso. Again, not a problem, I am not a fan of needle decorations on the skin, but to each their own.  Then came the preaching.  He got up on a dance stand and he said something to the effect of “I wasn’t going to take off my shirt.  I don’t want to offend any one with my tattoos, but then I thought this would be a good time to make a point.  These tattoos don’t matter, it is what is one the inside that counts.  It doesn’t matter if you are tattooed, or black, or asian,  or hispanic or anything else. It is what is on the inside that counts.”

Now conceptually, it is a great thing to try to defeat racism.  Practically, it is probably not a good idea to put race into the same category as a tattoo.  They are different.  I wondered to myself if anyone he mentioned might be offended by the statement.  A persons race does not come from a tattoo artist, any more than a person is born with tattoos.  He should choose his words better. His point was lost in his lack of experience and wisdom.  He has brought racism into the realm of trivial, and that is something that was very preachy and his little “Rock Star” cause.

From a distance his tattoo looked like something bizarre.  Similar to a fishnet bra on a skinny old woman who’s breasts have sagged down to her abdomen.  I have attempted to find a picture of the tattoo, but none of them look the same up close.   Thank goodness.  That would have really made me not respect him.

Come back for the continuing saga.
