Friday night, during football season.

Cedar Park High School, on October 23, 2009 beat on of the highest rated teams in the state of Texas.  Stony Point was supposed to beat us like ugly orphans.  They were supposed to dominate us.  We beat them, thus we became the only team in our league to be undefeated in league play.

Stony Point was a really good football team.  They played with a lot of class.  BUT, we beat them.  It was a great game, unless you were from Stony Point.  Most Friday nights they would have ground us into a messy little pulp, but this Friday, they just couldn’t do it.  It was a close game, and the murmur going through the stands was “Uh-Oh, now we have just made them mad”, each time we would score.  It would seem that was a correct statement every time, but it never really paid off for our opponent.  They still lost with a final score of 21 for Stony Point, 28 for CPHS.

This Friday, October 30, 2009, we played Westwood High School, which is another Round Rock School District team.  We were supposed to spank them like silly little monkeys.  But as with the week before the underdog wanted a victory even more than the new top dog.  As the CPHS team was the new leader in the league, being the only undefeated team, they had the most to lose.  Westwood had nothing to lose.  They had been beaten by Stony Point and by Leander High. (Now is the time to be concerned, we play Leander next week as our final game of the season.)  So for them there was noplace to go but up.

And they did.  They fought and we sort of bore our throats and admitted defeat.  At half time it was 21 to 7 in their favor.  Our guys came back during the 2nd half and played their hearts out.  They really worked at the win.  They tackled Westwood in their endzone and got 2 points for that.  The final score was gut wrenching, heart breaking, and disappointing but a game that was well worth the price of admission.  Usually I only pay to see the band, and I hope that the game is good.  Last night, I paid for the band, but I would have paid again for the game.  There were two teams who played with their hearts, they played with honor, and they were both playing to win.

Alas, only one team one.  Westwood one the first half, and Cedar Park won the second half.  The only bad part of that win for CPHS is that they didn’t win the 2nd half by as big of a margin as WW won the first.  The final score was 25 for CPHS, and 28 for Westwood High School.  What a game!
