Hooray for Traffic Delays
On Saturday we went to the annual Celtic Festival in Austin Texas. It is not like this is some incredible journey, we do live here in Austin after all. However on Saturday this 7 mile journey took nearly an hour to get back at the end of the day. When we left home around 8AM we got on I-35, went south for about 3 or 4 minutes, then finished up in the park about 15 minutes after we had left the house.
We left the park at 3PM. We got home at 4:05. As much as I love driving, this has become a little out of my comfort zone. When I got home I was not in a pleasant mood, and I knew that I would be in trouble because I was supposed to go with my wife to take our daughter to a birthday party. And then it was another 2 hours for them to get home.
I have seen the motto for Austin, I have even mentioned it here. “Austin, the Live Music Capital of the World”. Now don’t get me wrong, there are parts of Austin that I really like. It has some very scenic points such as the Fiesta Gardens. Zilker Park is nice but there is not a place to park unless you want to drive around for 30 minutes to find someplace. The last two times that I have gone there, I have gotten a parking ticket even when I park between 2 cars that didn’t get tickets. My luck has not been good with Zilker, but it is a pretty place. Barton Springs is a lot of fun also. I like the university, and I like the community college, both are good systems.
I don’t like a lot of things about Austin. I don’t like the traffic. There are always backups on the roads in some parts of town, and no matter when you go to work or anyplace there will be delays. In fact the best motto for Austin is: “Welcome to Austin, expect Delays”.
I will let you know when the bumper sticker comes out.
