Wii games run amok!

Today was the annual trek to purchase Christmas gifts.  My wife takes a day off from her job teaching and I take a day off, or as was the case today, I just didn’t type, or answer emails, and we just shop our little hearts out.  Each store we go to winds up taking at least twice as long as we think it will.I am not a good shopper.  I am not a good gift buyer.  I am good at whining and complaining about being in a store that I really have no desire to be in.  But it is one of the greatest day of my year.  I know that I get to be with my wife, eat lunch with my wife, and just spend the day catching up with her, as the first half of the school year is winding down.  We have been together since 1982 when we first started dating and then we moved in together in 1983 and it took me till July of 1987 to wear her down enough for her to agree to  marry me.  I love being with her.

This year we have two new game systems to work through.  Both of the kids have Nintendo DS systems, the family has a “Nintendo Wii” and my son has an “XBox 360″.  Too many systems for a family that is too busy to get to play board games.  But that is the predicament that we are in.  How many games must a poor man buy, before the games make no sense?

We have, however completely enjoyed our Wii and the sports games.  While the primary games that it came with are a lot of fun we have used the Wii Fit.  I have lost 9 pounds in about 6 weeks, so I feel like I am making some real progress.  I am trying to mix in some other things with the Wii, but it still seems to be the most enjoyable.

If you have not been exposed to the Wii Fit, you might consider getting one.  It comes with a scale that is, to be honest, embarassing.  When I weighed in for the first time I was identified as obese.  I have known that for a long time.  I guess I am one of those people that I say the most bad things about, I know I am in the wrong but I want to order the T-Shirt that says, “I wish somebody would do something about how fat I am”.  We know that it is our fault, but we really think that it should be fixed by somebody else.  Diet that I have gone on, finally, is to not eat so much, and move around more.

I am not successful with my weight loss, but it is only because I have not worked very hard at it.  I am beginning to be better, but I haven’t gotten there yet.  This self discipline thing sucks…

Back to the Wii Fit.  There are games to make you move.  You run in place, you walk a tight rope, and you do yoga.  If you had asked me 10 years ago if there would be a video game console that helps you do yoga I would have called you crazy, or at the bare minimum I would have scoffed at you loudly.  The Wii Fit is a great game that challenges your breathing, focus, and your balance.  From what I have seen, you need some help with being balanced.  (not really you specifically, but I bet it made you think,”Wow, how did he know that about me?”)

get one today, they can do a lot for your fitness and these are games that you can play with your kids.  Nothing like popping your kids in the face in a boxing match.  Of course I am usually the one getting popped, but it make the kids feel like they can talk to me, if the can beat me up in a Wii Game.  It still bugs me to ask for the Wiimote though.  That is just weird….
