Minis and Friends Holiday Hoedown
Yesterday was the annual “Holiday” party for the Minis and Friends organisation. Well in all actuality it really can’t be an annual event until next year. This was the first time it was called a “Hoedown”My Son, one of his friends and my little girl went out with me to help where we could help. We had a grand old time. There were 6 or 7 miniature horses, and about 150 visitors. Channel 8 news (the local 24 hours cable news channel) sent a photographer who stayed out about 15 minutes and got some decent footage of the mini’s and the festivities.
I really wanted him to take some shots of my Daughter, since she was leading our mini around, and it would have been cool to have her be on the news. She got so excited when she saw that the news was there. The photographer didn’t say a word to us, and was very much not a part of the event. He took some shots, and then talked to the founders for a couple of minutes, than he was out of there.
When the little clip came on this morning, to be quite honest, I was quite disappointed. It really didn’t show the mini’s very much, but they did show a little bit from Gil, and he is quite good at presenting why Minis and Friends is a great organisation. I really thought that my daughter would be disappointed because it didn’t show her or very much of Bravo, our horse. When she did see the recording, she was very excited. She saw Gil, and me and she saw Bravo. I had mistaken her excitement for self interest. What a surprise when it wasn’t about self interest, it was about being there, and knowing the people and animals on the TV screen. I forgot, she is 8. Her excitement is based on the community she belongs to, not the things that feature her. And the old man learns something again.
As I said before, Gil did a great job presenting what we are about with these little hearts with hooves. We help people for a little slice of time. We make people who otherwise don’t necessarily feel wanted, or loved, and the minis make them feel that love and acceptance. We help for just a bit. we know that it doesn’t last a long time. A single point in time. Put enough single points of time together, and you have a lifetime, and we just can’t get any better than that.
