Scary days in our country

I heard about 15 minutes of the State of The Union speech last night.  It was indeed a statement to my constitution that I didn’t yell out in a loud voice how much I have disagreed with the statements that this confused man was making.

He has done more as much in one year to polarize our country than any single event in our history.  He has rebuked the Supreme Court, and he has called anybody who believes in God a backwards country gun toter.

I don’t care where Obama was born.  He is leaving a lot of blame on the table.  Why does he run focus groups before he responds to emergencies.  Nearly 10 days after the attempted bombing of the flight to Detroit, or where ever it was, he says, “we are looking into it.”

He has had more vacations in a year than anybody in the US.  He has become the star, rather than the producer.  He loves the lime light and he still doesn’t get the fact that history will see him not as a grand leader, but as a great media hound.

Yes it is very easy for me to sit in my little cubicle, in my little hole in the world and point my fingers at others and put labels on them.  It is what I do!  It is what the nature of humanity is.

Have you ever noticed that if you believe something you think you are right?  According the the Wikipedia belief is the following: Belief is the psychological state in which an individual holds a proposition or premise to be true.  Of course when you type in “define:belief” in Google the definition is “Belief is a song by pop/blues singer John Mayer from his 2006 album, Continuum.” But that is irrelevant in this discussion.

This little definition is what it takes to understand humanity.  If you have a belief that contradicts mine, you cannot be correct.  If you contradict someone in person there can be a discussion about it and still leave as friends.  If you ridicule me for my belief you have created an enemy.  We have not made any progress.  There has been a reduction in communication.  There are only a few things that you can be assured of in human relations.

  • People believe what they believe
  • People won’t change what they believe because you tell them they shouldn’t believe it
  • People resent a government who calls them a fool for believing what they believe
  • People will eventually wake up and realise that tolerance is a two way street

You can be wrong and I won’t dislike you, chastise you, or even punish you for believing it.  That is, until you do those things to me because you don’t like my belief.

I think that has gotten cultures of people in trouble prior to present day.
